Blue Origin’s First All-Female Crew Is Bringing Lipstick, Lashes, and Major Glam to Space

Who says you can’t slay in zero gravity? Blue Origin’s upcoming space mission is making history in more ways than one. Not only is it the company’s first all-female crew, but the six powerhouse women—Lauren Sánchez, Katy Perry, Gayle King, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn—are proving that beauty and brains go hand in hand, even in orbit.

The team, set to launch on April 14, is not just making history—they’re making sure they look fabulous while doing it. Yes, we’re talking lipstick, lash extensions, and a full-on beauty routine… in space.

Glamour in Zero Gravity? Yes, Please!

Sánchez, the mission’s leader and longtime advocate for women in space, made it clear that the team is all about blending science with style.

“Who would not get glam before the flight?!” Sánchez said in an interview with Elle. “We’re going to have lash extensions flying in the capsule!

Meanwhile, Perry, known for her bold looks, is just as excited about adding some glitz to this interstellar adventure.

“Space is going to finally be glam,” Perry said in an interview with Elle. “Let me tell you something. If I could take glam up with me, I would do that. We are going to put the “ass” in astronaut.”

Beauty and Brains in Orbit

It’s not just about looking good; it’s about feeling powerful and confident—even in zero gravity. Bioastronautics researcher and civil rights activist Nguyen emphasized that femininity and intelligence aren’t mutually exclusive.

“I think it’s so important for people to see us like that,” said Nguyen. “This dichotomy of engineer and scientist, and then beauty and fashion. We contain multitudes. Women are multitudes. I’m going to be wearing lipstick.”

From Nerves to Excitement

While the excitement is palpable, some crew members are experiencing a few nerves—totally understandable when you’re literally launching into the stratosphere.

“I also know it’s very interesting to be terrified and excited at the same time,” King shared. “I haven’t felt like this since childbirth, really. Because I knew childbirth was going to hurt. But it’s also stepping out of your comfort zone.”

A Mission with a Message

For Sánchez, this mission is about inspiring future generations—and proving that women belong everywhere, including outer space.

“The fact that we’re going to be able to come back and inspire people and bring people together excites me the most. Little girls and little boys are going to be more curious about space and what else is out there because we’re bringing attention to it. It will be great to inspire a new generation.”

With these incredible women preparing to launch, one thing’s for sure: space travel has never looked this good.
